Lignosulphonates
Lignosulphonates
Lignosulfonates are by-products of wood pulp manufacturing,
spray-dried to produce ligno powder. Because lignins are very complex
natural polymers with many random couplings, the exact chemical
structure is not known. Physical and chemical properties differ
depending on the extraction technology and source of raw material –
wood.
Concrete
Admixture
Lignosulfonates are widely used in the concrete Admixture industry,
where they are used for their dispersing properties.
as Dispersing Agent - Used as dispersing agent,
lignosulfonates reduce the amount of water required to form plastic
ad workable mixtures. Since the water required is less, the resultant
concrete is of increased density, better uniformity, higher compression
strength and better durability.
as Retarding Agent - Where concrete needs to remain fluid over
extended periods of time, lignosulfonates are used to retard the
setting time of concrete. With the addition of small quantities of
accelerators or retardants, these properties of concrete could be
predetermined. The amount of air entraining admixture can be reduced from the normal
when it is used in concrete.
Pesticides
Lignosulfonates act as grinding aids and dispersant to
form a variety of stable suspension / dispersion of various pesticides
in Wettable Powder or Concentrated Flowables formulations.
Lignosulfonate prevents the clumping and settling of undissolved
particles in suspensions. By attaching to the particle surface, it keeps
the particle from being attracted to other particles and reduces the
amount of water needed to use the product effectively. They are
compatible with other tensio-active agents and wetting agents, and
improve dispersion.
Textiles
-
Lignosulfonates act as dispersing
agents to form a variety of stable suspension / dispersion of textile
chemicals and also it finds usage in fiber dyeing for fabrics.
Lignosulfonate impede or reduce drastically the tendency to form
agglomerates thus retarding sedimentation. By attaching to the particle
surface, it keeps the particle from being attracted to other particles
and reduces the amount of water needed to use the product effectively.
They are compatible with other tensio-active agents and wetting agents
thus favoring improved dispersion.
-
Its lack of sensitivity to hard water, its effect as a grinding aid and
its good dispersing action make lignosulphonates a better choice
as a dispersing agent in the manufacture of textile auxiliaries.
-
Lignosulfonates can also act as a cost effective substitute to
other commonly available dispersing agents such as Castoral sulfonate,
Napthalene Sulfonate and allied products.
Leather
Lignosulphonates
impede or reduce the tendency to form agglomerates retarding
sedimentation.
Lignosulphonates as viscosity reducers :
Diffusion fastens up allowing tannin to reach the isolated areas of the
hide, on reduction of tannin viscosity, To achieve it,
lignosulphonates should be added with efficient mechanical mixing to
break up the agglomerates and be adsorbed onto the surface of the
majority of the particles.
Lignosulphonates permit greater solids concentration :
By impeding the formation of agglomerates, lignosulphonates
permit the formation of suspensions containing more solids at given
viscosity enabling to get optimum effect of tannins.
